A looper pedal is an electronic device that enables a musician create and record sounds, tunes or chord sequences and play it over and over again in a loop for as many times as they want it either alone as a composed beat or another tune or chord can be played over it, making the already recorded one sound like a backing track. Looper pedals are wonderful devices, they make one single musician sound like a complete band. Before you buy this really cool stuff, what are the things to consider? Let’s take a look:

HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE?
There are different models of looper pedals available; some very affordable and others really expensive. How much does a looper pedal mean to you? Are you willing to invest in a very expensive one now, or do you want to buy a simple one and then switch or upgrade later? Check your pockets and see how far you can dig in, resolve on a budget and stick to your resolution.

COMPLEX OR SIMPLE?
Before you buy a looper pedal, put into consideration whether you want a simple looper pedal with basic features and just a few knobs or one that is more complicated and of course has more features.

WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE?
Sound quality check is also important when buying a looper pedal, if you want a looper pedal for home or studio use only, you can settle for an average sound quality pedal, but if you want a professional sound for stage or music production, then you should no doubt go for a top-notch sound quality pedal.

LENGTH OF RECORDING TIME
If you’re a performing artist or a full time musician or producer, its more advisable to get a looper pedal that has the ability to record longer minutes or hours of tracks (with or without the help of an SD card), but if you record at home only and do not usually have so much music work, you can get a looper pedal that has a shorter memory space for recording (which would obviously be cheaper too).

SPACE CONSUMING OR NOT?
You might also want to consider your practice space/area when going for a looper pedal. Some pedals are usually bigger and longer than others, while some are smaller. If you have enough floor space and can accommodate a pedal that will take up half of the space, then go for it.

HOW MANY TRACKS CAN YOU LOOP OVER?
This is also an important factor to think about when buying a looper pedal. Some looper pedals have limits to the number of tracks they can loop over, some can loop just 4 tracks and below, while some others are unlimited, you can loop over as many tracks as you want.

Loop pedals are great for every category: beginner, intermediate or pro and they are easy to use, even if you haven’t used or owned a loop pedal before, that’s okay, you can always use the ‘trial-and-error’ method until you get it right. Loop pedals help you access your playing by playing back your looped recording, you should get yourself one.
