If you’re just starting out your guitar journey and seem confused on what kind of songs to begin playing, not to worry, I’ve got you covered by putting together some popular songs that are easy to play using only three, four, five or even two chords for the entire song. In a previous article, I mentioned and explained 8 easy but very important chords that every beginner should learn and know how to play. We would be applying these chords and some other chords into the songs we’re going to be learning, because they are popularly used chords and appear in many popular songs we know; they are C Major, A Major, G Major, E Major, D Major, E Minor, A Minor and D Minor. If you do not know how to play these chords, click here to learn how to. Other chords that will be used in the course of learning these beginner friendly songs are F Major, F major 7th (Fmaj7) and D dominant 7th (D7).
The F Major chord is played this way:
Place your index finger (first finger) on the 1st fret of the 2nd string (B string)
Place your middle finger (second finger) on the 2nd fret of the 3rd string (G string)
Place your ring finger (third finger) on the 3rd fret of the 4th string (D string)
Strum only the three strings that your fingers are holding down, the 1st, 5th and 6th strings are muted.
The Fmaj7 is played this way:
Place your index finger (first finger) on the1st fret of the 2nd string (B string)
Place your middle finger (second finger) the 2nd fret of the 3rd string (G string)
Place your ring finger (third finger) on the 3rd fret of the 4th string (D string)
Strum from the 4th string downwards, the 5th and 6th strings are muted
The D7 is played this way:
Place your index finger (first finger) on the 1st fret of the 2nd string (B string)
Place your middle finger (second finger) on the 2nd fret of the 3rd string (G string)
Place your ring finger (third finger) on the 2nd fret of the 1st string (high E string)
